DISC, is a measuring system, or simply put, a model for evaluating individual behavioral traits. This method is unique in the sense that it never builds unilateral judgments. On the contrary, it is based on four set parameters which ultimately govern an individual's score or rating in various settings and environments.
In short, it a tool which helps understand the complex attributes of humans in terms of behavior, temperament, emotion and mental state that characterizes each individual.
It stands for "Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness". Every individual possesses these four qualities, but in varying degrees, which is what differentiates one person from another. For most, these lineaments are seen in shades of grey. Within this grey tone lies the reciprocal action and reaction of behaviors, otherwise known as fusions or blends.
These four dictums together define the profile of an individual. Disc management is analyzing the individuals for their respective qualities and short-comings.
Dominance: High scorers in "D" factors are dynamic and quick problem solvers, while low "D" scorers are people who indulge in extensive research before committing to a solution. High "D" people are described as involving, emphatic and strong willed. They are ambitious and enterprising. On the other hand a low "D" score describes those, who are resistant to changes, lenient, conservative, meek and lack that go-getting attitude.
Influence: Individuals scoring high on "I" have good communication skills, shaping decisions by means of chatting and group discussions. They are described as warm, illustrative, trusting and affirmative. Those with low "I" are described as ruminative, calculating, not easily convinced, but with great analytical skill set. In general people with low "I" scores are negative in their approach.
Steadiness: Steadiness and security are the hallmarks of people with high "S" scores. High "S" individuals' possess unwavering beliefs even under extreme stress. They are patient, genitive by nature and predictable. They tend to be unemotional and without any facial countenance. Individuals with low "S" scores are known to be demonstrative, impatient and capricious.
Conscientious: High "C" scores mark the person as the one who sticks to rules and regulations. They like to do quality work and do it in one shot. High "C" scoring individuals are cautious, exigent, tactful and precise. Those with low "C" scores challenge the system and its rule. They lust for independence and are described as headstrong, obstinate and whimsical.
Disc profile therefore provides detailed report on individual shortcomings and strong areas. In general it helps in knowing what causes stress and conflicts and what motivates such individuals.
On the production side DISC helps create a healthy ambience in terms of workplace and on the other hand enhances teamwork and inter-personal relationships. It also helps in reducing conflicts.
On the sales side it helps in building stronger sales force by identifying and responding to customer styles.
